ACADEMIC RESEARCH
DOCTORAL RESEARCH — UNIVERSITY OF THE ARTS LONDON (UAL)
H.M. The Sole is completing a PhD by Published Works at the University of the Arts London.
His research operates at the intersection of architectural phenomenology and governance innovation, examining how novel mythologies and experimental design can inform pioneering models for climate-aligned national development projects and large-scale regeneration programmes.
This interdisciplinary methodology positions the built environment as both a site of eco- imaginaries and a framework for long-term economic, environmental, and societal habitats.

Drawing upon his speculative eco mythopoeia The Moraceaeians (2015), the monarch of Moraceae is articulated as a sovereign for planetary stewardship, a climate authority constituted to uphold ecological responsibility and intergenerational accountability beyond the structural limitations of contemporary institutions.
PUBLISHED WORK
The doctoral submission brings together a portfolio of publicly disseminated research, including:

-The Moraceaeians: Rites of Passage (2015) — a foundational ecological eco-mythopoeia establishing the conceptual framework for the wider programme

-Peer-reviewed conference contributions and invited lectures on sovereignty, climate finance, governance innovation, and the future of human habitats

-Practice-led development prospectuses produced as applied research within live institutional contexts

These works form a continuous body of enquiry linking theory, public engagement, and turn-key building proposals

RESEARCH IN APPLICATION
The academic programme is practice-led.
Its propositions are tested through engagement with government, industry, and cultural institutions, allowing design, financial, and governance models to be evaluated in real-world conditions.
This approach positions studies as an active R&D platform for long-horizon development and regeneration.

BUILT ENVIRONMENT
THE SOLE ESTATE
The Sole Estate was formed in 2021 as a direct outcome of H.M. The Sole’s doctoral work, translating a body of spatial and governance research into an operational development practice.
What began as an academic investigation into new models of national regeneration has evolved into a live pipeline of projects and partnerships centred on critical national infrastructure and climate-aligned development.
The clarity of that vision has attracted senior figures from across the built environment, infrastructure, and investment sectors, establishing a team with experience on some of the most significant
schemes delivered in the UK and internationally.
PROGRAMME AND DEVELOPMENT REPORTS
Since 2021, The Sole Estate has produced Development Reports setting out its active fields of work and project pipeline.

These reports create a continuous public record of activity, marking
the progression from concept formation to technically structured development frameworks.
They are not speculative propositions, but long-form project architectures — each documenting scope, partners,
and advancement — and together establishing a working pipeline defined by national scale, environmental performance,
and institutional collaboration.

DEVELOPMENT FRAMEWORK
The Sole Estate’s work is structured around three interrelated strands:

Academic Advancement
Originating new development models through interdisciplinary research.

Industrial Innovation
Forming projects in which infrastructure, energy, digital capacity, and long-income environments are conceived as a single system.

Cultural Diplomacy
Aligning major regeneration with civic identity, heritage, and international collaboration.

Together, these establish a mode of development in which critical national infrastructure, environmental performance, and economic strategy are delivered as a unified framework rather than as separate disciplines.
EXECUTIVE DELIVERY GROUP
A rare concentration of top-tier experience has been assembled around a single, clearly defined development agenda.
Design leadership
Drawn from architects whose work at Foster + Partners and the
Norman Foster Foundation has shaped internationally recognised cultural, transport, and nationally significant projects, setting new standards for large-scale, environmentally responsive infrastructure across Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.
Construction and Delivery
Led by professionals responsible for major programmes at Canary Wharf, the Olympic Park, high-capacity data environments, and complex multi-phase residential developments — taking projects from early structuring through procurement, execution, and long-term operation.
Commercial strategy
Directed by specialists in long-income development, cost management, and institutional funding structures, with portfolios spanning Tier 1 contractors, major UK housebuilders, and investment platforms focused on unlocking large, technically demanding sites.
Strategic Advisory Support
Extends across government, environmental policy, cultural leadership, and international finance, bringing experience from ministerial office, the United Nations, FTSE-listed investment vehicles, and global corporate transformation.
This is an active delivery group with the collective authority and technical depth required to engage at national and metropolitan scale.
THE ROLE
The Sole Estate acts as the convening and structuring body for each programme — assembling project teams, aligning institutional partners, and guiding progression from early vision to deliverable framework.
DIRECTION
Under H.M.’s proprietorship, the practice maintains a clear focus on projects that combine critical national infrastructure, environmental performance, social inclusion, and long-term economic resilience.
Its work is defined by:
-National-scale ambition
-Integrated mixed-use environments
-Infrastructure-led regeneration
-Partnerships with public and institutional bodies

CLIMATE FINANCE
OPENING INFRASTRUCTURE INVESTMENT TO GLOBAL PARTICIPATION AND DIRECTING IT INTO REAL-WORLD CLIMATE ASSETS
The principal constraint on the delivery of climate-aligned infrastructure is not technology or policy, but capital formation.
This project positions capital formation as a design problem — and infrastructure as its outcome. The principal constraint on the delivery of climate-aligned infrastructure is not technology or policy, but capital formation. This project positions capital formation as a design problem — and infrastructure as its outcome.

Leading financial institutions — including the World Bank, the United Nations, major central banks, and global investment advisers — have identified a persistent shortfall of several trillion dollars per year between the funding required for the low-carbon transition and the capital currently being deployed.
This gap continues to widen despite record levels of climate allocation, reflecting structural limits within traditional project finance and institutional investment models.

A NEW CAPITAL FORMATION MODEL
H.M. The Sole’s work in climate finance is directed to meet the structural funding constraint.
It establishes a model in which participation in infrastructure investment is no longer limited to sovereigns, institutions, and closed funds, but is opened to a global base of distributed capital through digitally structured financial architecture.
This shift expands the available capital pool beyond traditional project finance, enabling retail participation in the funding of real-world climate infrastructure while maintaining a direct relationship between financial value and asset delivery.
At the centre of this framework is $HMSOLE — the Sovereign of Moraceae utility token — conceived not as a speculative instrument, but as a mechanism for:
-Aggregating distributed capital
-Linking value directly to real-world assets
-Embedding transparency and governance in the financial structure
-Supporting long-horizon development programmes
In this model, digital finance operates as infrastructure for capital formation, allowing large-scale projects to be financed through a broadened and globally accessible investor base.
CAPITAL MOBILISATION THROUGH PUBLIC PARTICIPATION
The framework recognises that mobilisation precedes investment.
Through H.M. The Sole’s authored public platform, a global audience
is engaged and directed toward participation in climate-aligned development. This creates a new entry point into infrastructure —
one that operates alongside, rather than in competition with, institutional capital.
The objective is to expand the base of participation while maintaining
a direct relationship between financial value and the performance
of physical assets.
STRUCTURE AND GOVERNANCE
The system is designed to operate through phased growth aligned with the advancement of real projects, ensuring that capital formation and asset delivery remain structurally connected.
Strategic oversight is embedded to provide continuity, stability, and accountability across long-term development cycles.
PURPOSE
This work is not the creation of a parallel financial economy.
It is the development of a scalable funding architecture for critical infrastructure, environmental transition, and inclusive urban growth — capable of operating across jurisdictions and over multi-decade timescales.

THE CAPITAL GAP AND THE URGENT NEED FOR NEW MODELS
Without new methods of capital formation, the delivery of climate infrastructure will remain structurally underfunded.
This programme addresses that condition directly by opening participation, structuring capital digitally, and tying financial value to the creation and performance of real-world assets.
